Hey guys!
This morning I didn’t wake up as hungry as usual.. probably because I ate so late last night. (Well it’s probably not considered late to other people but for me 7:45-8 is very late! haha.) I went with one of my favorite breakfasts.. Better’N'Pumpkin Pie in a Bowl! You didn’t think I could go that long without it did you? It had:
- 1/2 cup Daisy 2% cottage cheese blended in the food processor with 1/3 cup pumpkin, vanilla, stevia, cinnamon, and ginger
- 1/2 cup Kashi Go Lean
- 1/2 ripe banana
- 1 tbsp Naturally More Peanut Butter

It was delicious as always
I headed to Psychology shortly after breakfast only to find the professor didn’t show up! After waiting a while for her to show I headed home. Since I had some free time I decided to try some yoga.. my hips and legs are really sore from yesterday’s run! Is it normal for your hips to get sore??
Anyway, I did about 10 minutes of YogaDownloads Hip Opening flow but then called it quits.. I have to be honest I’m not a big yoga fan! I get too bored unfortunately. So instead I had some snacks!
I wasn’t necessarily hungry but I knew my breakfast wasn’t very calorie dense and I didn’t want make it last me 5 1/2 hours until lunch. So I decided to eat! First up was 1/2 cup egg substitute microwaved with 1 Light Laughing Cow cheese wedge, pepper, and red pepper flakes:

But a snack isn’t a snack without something sweet right? So I had a snack that brings me back to my childhood: 1 Snack Tortilla topped with 2 tsp Unsweetened Apple Butter:

And then I went to my Philosophy class, and then eventually came home for lunch. On Tuesday I received some free samples of Kathy’s Crackers in the mail and I wanted to incorporate them in my lunch today! So for lunch I mixed up a can of albacore tuna with some fresh salsa, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Then I steamed some broccoli and covered it in Braggs. And then finally I ate it all with a Salsa flavored Kathy’s Cracker!

The crackers are raw, gluten-free, and made of flaxseeds. Each cracker packs about 6 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein! I really liked the salsa flavor.. it wasn’t very spicy but had a nice flavor to it. And you could really see all of the ingredients:

I also took a bite of the Savory flavor but I have to say I wasn’t a fan. I’m not sure why.. I love veggies but I don’t like a veggie flavored cracker I guess! My mom tried it and liked it.. she said it reminded her of sundried tomatoes (which I’m not a fan of either so that’s probably why!)
After lunch I headed to the gym. Here’s what I did:
- Overhead press- 3 sets of 8 with two 15lb dumbbells
- Lateral raises- 3 sets of 10 with two 15lb dumbbells
- Wide bicep curls- 3 sets of 8 with 12.5lb dumbbells
- Chest fly- 3 sets of 8 with two 15lb dumbbells
- Skull crushers- 3 sets of 8 with two 15lb dumbbells
- Upright row- 3 sets of 10 with a 40lb barbell
- Bent-over underhand row- 3 sets of 10 with a 40lb barbell
- Skull crushers- 3 sets of 10 with 40 lb barbell
- Tricep dips- until failure
- Low row- 3 sets of 10 with 55-60lbs
- Assisted pull up machine- 40 lbs of assistance and I can’t remember how many I did!
- Assisted dips- 2 sets of 10
- 25 minutes on the Arc Trainer (interval setting)
- 30 push ups
And when I came home I’m embarrassed to say.. I ate MORE cottage cheese! I think I’m pretty much obsessed. Oh well.. it’s delicious! For my post-workout snack I had 1/2 cup Daisy 2% cottage cheese mixed with 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder, cinnamon, NuNaturals vanilla stevia, and 1/2 cup defrosted blueberries:

And a slice of Best-Ever Banana Bread with 1 tsp Barney Butter for the fun of it:

I blame it on hormones
After snacking I went to my last class of the day and then came home to dinner courtesy of my mom. She was sweet enough to take pictures of the easy process:

Cook 3 oz of lean ground bison in a skillet

Add a couple cups of shredded cabbage

Add red chili and eat!
I have to say I’ve become a fan of ground bison! I don’t like red meat very much but the taste is very mild so I actually like it. And it’s an excellent source of.. you got it.. protein!
I have a tiny Medical Tidbit of The Day to share with you all before I go…
Medical Tidbit of the Day: Cravings and Your Period
If you find yourself craving fats and/or red meat during your menstrual cycle you are totally normal! You need to have fat circulating in your body to ensure that you have a menstrual cycle in the first place, so it makes sense that you may need more during that time of month. And since your losing blood, you also lose iron, which may lead to red-meat cravings. So honor your cravings.. your body may need it!
See you tomorrow!

Neat medical tidbit
I totally believe in honoring your cravings! in moderation, of course
Great workout!

That breakfast looks amazing!!!

amen sister! isn’t it true your body actually needs like 200 more calories during your period as well? i think i heard that somewhere. LOVE the bison and the egg cooked in the microwave. seriously, such a fabulous discovery for me

I like bison and buffalo as well.
I have also read that your body burns a couple 100 extra calories during your period. So why do I want to eat an extra 800??

I know what you mean about eating a “late” dinner. Anything after 7 is very late for me, and I will always wake up the next morning stuffed!
Sorry to hear that yoga didn’t work out! Don’t give up on it though! You should give one of Dave Farmar’s classes a try, or try Yoga for Buns or Core Yoga. Being that you are used to such fast-paced and more strenuous workouts, you probably just need to start with a session with a speed you’re more used to.

I agree with you about the cravings. Our bodies are trying to tell us what they need, we have to learn to listen to them

Those crackers looks so good!
I get bored of yoga too. Especially sun salutations. I hate them. Don’t know why.

cottage cheese is a staple in my day to day eats — it’s so versatile
and has protein to boot!
I love those microwave egg scrambles — totally full proof and delicious!

Oh gosh, my cravings go bananas at that time. I am anaemic anyway so I definitely crave big spinach salads and plenty of red meat. Your bison looks delicious!

Love the “honour your cravings” tidbit. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through my journey is that your body will never steer you in the wrong direction if you just listen to it
Do you have the Les Mills BodyFlow classes at your gym too? I used to think yoga was SO boring until I started doing classes, and the instruction totally changed my perspective of it. The BodyFlow classes are particularly fun because it’s always switching up and the music can be decent.
Oh, and old lady hip right here!! Running hurts my hip if I do too much too soon. I recall you saying you don’t run often? Just make sure to separate your runs by lots of days, and it will hopefully get used to it. Old shoes will make my hip hurt too, I have to be really strict about replacing them every 6 months.

i’ve actually followed your blog for some time
don’t know why i haven’t commented!! i will def be commenting more often, i love it!

I won a giveaway of those crackers, and I agree – I’m not a huge fan of the savory flavor. Have you tried the apple cinnamon?
